FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Air Pirates Radio Theater returns June 21

The Air Pirates Radio Theater, a unique mixture of live contemporary interactive theater and old time radio drama, will once again present live radio plays at the Lycian Centre in Sugar Loaf, NY. The five play season will be recorded and broadcast on WTBQ Radio at both 1110 AM and 99.1 FM. Having completed a successful first season by being voted the Best Theater Troupe in the Hudson Valley by the Times Herald Record Readers’ Poll; The Air Pirates Radio Theater is premiering a new series, Los Tres Balceneros: The Legend Begins, at the Lycian Centre on June 21.

The Pirates will be presenting two episodes of the adventures of three cowboys, Ringo, Sunny and the Kid. Each episode tells the tale of three wayward caballeros and their good deeds. Written in the style of old-time western radio the shows, including singing cowboys and contemporary references, require the audience to participate by producing the sound effects

One of the unique features of an Air Pirates performance is the inclusion of commercials. Sponsors including Eclectic Tech, Style Council, Weinert T-Shirts, Croll Organizing, D & H Canvas, Meeting Tree Computer Corp, Winn Cards and Comics, 1st Advisors Mortgage and Empire Signs of the Hudson Valley have original commercials integrated into the live shows. “Our sponsors have agreed not only to sponsor the programs but to allow me to write their ads,” says Paul Ellis, writer and producer of the Air Pirates, “they have to have a sense of humor to be part of this. The commercials are funny and sometimes they even get applause. Like the rest of our shows the ads contain sound effects provided by the audience.” The Air Pirates Radio Theater is made possible, in part, with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts’ Decentralized Program administered by Arts in Orange.

The Air Pirates Radio Theater series is scheduled to perform at the Pavilion at the Lycian Centre in Sugar Loaf. On June 21 the company presents Los Tres Balceneros: The Legend Begins, July 19 is the second Herb Marks Mystery; All Fortunes are Not Found in Cookies, August 16 the cowboys make their second appearance in They Ride Like the Purple Sage and September 20 concludes the season with Space Cadet, Take Me to Your Lender. Tickets are $15 for each show. For information and to order tickets call 845-469-7563 or visit the web site at www.airpiratesradiotheater.com.
