FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Improvisation Workshop for Young Actors to Begin at the Lycian Centre
On October 9th, Lycian Centre will host the second session of its Youth Theatre Program entitled “Youth Improvisation”. After its first successful summer of acting classes and a performance of six short plays, this class will continue to give teens an opportunity to develop their acting skills and meet new people. Classes are being held on Thursday evenings from 6 PM to 8 PM in the Lycian Centre’s Pavilion Theatre.
Serious students of acting can study techniques of improvisation designed to develop the actors’ ability to create characters and scenes. This course emphasizes basic verbal and physical communication skills by exploring spontaneity, active listening, risk-taking, story-telling, character development, and scene study in a non-judgmental environment. Participants in the Youth Improvisation Workshop will learn the fundamentals of storytelling, create their own characters on stage, and gain confidence in their new skills. Course material includes theater games, skill building exercises, and related acting exercises
“Through a series of short form games and exercises students will develop stronger presentation and speaking skills, become better listeners, and learn to be less critical and more accepting of both themselves and others,” said Paul Ellis, director and teacher. “Using the techniques of improvisation and learning the basics of theater (acting) in a small, relaxed class offers the opportunity to concentrate on individual talents and areas of study.” The students will learn how to take suggestions and outlined scenes and make them into fully realized performances. Each student will have multiple opportunities to find and hone his/her imagination and performance skills. To register for the workshop, call 845-469-2287 or 469-7563 and the fee is $275.
Class begins on October 9th and runs every Thursday from 6 PM to 8 PM with a performance open to the public on Friday evening Dec 19th at 8:00PM tickets are $10.00 and can be reserved by calling 469-2287.
