FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Kings Youth Theater Registration Expands Program

The Kings Youth Theater, a training program of the Kings Theatre Company at the Lycian Centre, is expanding its training program to include classes for beginners and advanced students. The ten week program takes place in the evening from 6:00 to 8:00. The program is held in the Pavilion of the Lycian Centre in Sugar Loaf. Having this program at the Lycian Centre gives the students access to a professional theatre space with state of the art equipment.

This spring the program, for serious students of theater, offers two courses. For the first time a beginning class for students who have had little or no training in acting is being offered. This class is for students twelve years old and up and will be held on Tuesday evenings.

The second class, held on Wednesday evenings, is for students who have taken either of the past courses offered at the Centre or have had some training. Students will be interviewed about their past experience or may be required to audition.

The objective of the theater program is to provide young people from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to participate in a theatre experience that will develop confidence, responsibility, teamwork, and a greater sense of self and community. Both acting classes will include improvisation, scene study, movement and voice as well as internal process, rhythm and pacing.

Instructor Paul Ellis has forty years of experience in the theater business. He studied theater with Lee Strasberg, Peter Brook, Julian Beck and play writing with Jean Claude Van Ittallie. Ellis has directed over eighty plays and produced numerous concerts and festivals. He founded Arts Work a youth employment program in the arts and has taught both privately and for the School of Visual and Performing Arts in Montclair, New Jersey where he was the Director of Art and Cultural Affairs. Mr. Ellis presently writes and directs the Air Pirates Radio Theater now in its third season of presenting original radio plays.

Classes begin March 10 for beginners and March 11 for advanced. The fee for each ten week program is $275. To register call (845) 469-2287 or visit the box office of the Lycian Centre Tuesday through Saturdays from 10:00 Am to 4:00 PM. For information about the program or course content call (845) 469-7563.
